Jul 19, 2022 – STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, will host the STM32 China Online Tech Week 2022 on July 18-22, marking the 15th year of STM32 embedded technology since its global launch.

From its beginning, the STM32 family now contains more than 1200 MCU and MPU devices across 16 product series. This first-time virtual event “STM32 China Online Tech Week” brings together numerous ecosystem partners, developers, and customers showcasing their latest technology innovations, enabled by ST. Attendees can virtually connect with ST management, established industry partners, and engineers presenting insightful keynote speeches, dedicated technical presentations, and innovative demos.

This unique 5-day online event concentrates on topics across 5 major categories: Industrial & Energy, AI & Smart Mobility, Smart IoT, Security & Safety, and Ecosystem & Innovation.

Industrial & Energy
Today, the digitalization of devices and systems driven by the development of Industry 4.0, as well as the energy-management and power-efficiency improvements driven by governments’ energy-saving and emission-reduction targets, are driving change. To this end, embedded processing solutions, like the STM32, play a key role in enabling these changes.

For instance, ST will highlight its STM32G491RC running a dual motor controller with a digital power factor controller. The setup could fit inside an outdoor air conditioner and control its compressor and fan. In another demo, an STM32G030K8, an STGIPQ5C60T-HZ inverter, and a VIPER318HDTR converter operate as a reference design for sensorless field-oriented control systems for single motors.

To showcase its wide portfolio of products targeting industrial & energy sectors, ST will demonstrate an STKNX-based smart-home control system, delivering intelligent operation and maintenance for electricity systems, a solar inverter, a robotic arm powered by STM32G4, and a main control unit running on an STM32MP1 for automated guided vehicles.

AI & Smart Mobility
In the era of IoT, edge AI is showing great potential to protect user privacy and data security along with real-time processing with lower implementation cost. With a wide range of embedded solutions for edge AI applications, ST will showcase various AI & smart-mobility applications that respond to the range of needs from smart home to smart industry and smart driving.

For example, ST will highlight anomaly detection in motor control using its NanoEdge AI Studio software. This demo can be used to program STM32 MCUs to detect abnormal behavior of the motor. It starts with a dynamically learned model based on current sensing thanks to NanoEdge AI Studio, Machine Learning (ML) technology that makes machine learning-based embedded development easy for engineers.

Another example is a 3D gesture-recognition demo with TouchGFX based on an AI Neural Network model, with an STM32 and ToF VL53L5 sensor that allows touchless control of a fan in a kitchen hood using a few different 3D gestures.

Other ST AI & Smart Mobility demos on display include a water-level detector based on a barometric, AI-enabled thermal imaging system, an ST MCU OpenFOTA (Firmware Update Over the Air) solution, a dump-truck inclination detector, an OLED taillight driver based on the L99LDLH32, a CCC 2.0 compliant digital car key solution, and NFC wireless charging.

Smart IoT
ST has been collaborating closely with ecosystem partners to accelerate the adoption of the Smart IoT.

At the event, demonstrating Industrial Sensor Nodes for Condition Monitoring connected to Azure IoT Central shows how easily developers can implement equipment monitoring in an industrial environment with the STEVAL-PROTEUS1T evaluation kit. Visitors can see the preprocessed data collected by edge sensors and equipment status from a smartphone, and how this kit sends information to the Azure IoT Central from Microsoft, to save or visualize the data.
Other ST Smart IoT demos on display include AI-based people detection using ST’s VD56G3 Global Shutter and STM32H7, an STM32WL LoRa solution for cloud connectivity, a fully wireless USB2.0 demo powered by ST60A3, an intelligent gesture-recognition solution, and an STM32MP1-driven 3D printing demo.

Security & Safety
Although there are thousands of IoT applications today, safety and security is always a top priority.

In that vein, ST will showcase a range of development kits and customer products based on STM32 MCUs and MPUs for Security & Safety, which are designed to protect users’ assets with robust software and hardware resources.

For example, the STM32U5 Trusted Firmware -M (TF-M) demo demonstrates TF-M-based security, covering secure boot, secure firmware updates, and a full set of runtime security services running in an isolated trusted execution environment on the STM32U5. In addition, the STM32U5 also provides powerful, complete system-level security support for the TF-M solution, featuring its build-in Arm® Cortex^®-M33 core with TrustZone^® inside and other security hardware IP integrated in the chip.

Other ST Security & Safety demos on display include ISEE-C, a cloud security service for IoT devices from ST’s local Chinese partner Beanpod, a general-purpose programmer that supports STM32 mass-production programming, and debuggers and real-time operating systems.

Ecosystem & Innovation
ST is now the No. 1 supplier of general-purpose MCUs worldwide, thanks to our strong ecosystem and continuous innovation, and we are showcasing those features at the event. Here, a “Tutti frutti” demo running on a dual-core STM32H7 will show how a drawn picture of fruit on a blackboard can be recognized by AI, while the demo presents the graphic FPS (Frames Per Second) and workload of the MCU cores in real time. The demo allows disabling one of the cores to run the entire application on a single core to compare the display effect and workload when powered by single or dual cores.

Other Ecosystem & Innovation demos include an STM32MP1 LoRa gateway, an STM32MPU home gateway, an STM32U5-based dashboard, an STM32H7 based GUI, and wearable solutions powered by PersimWear OS from our local Chinese partner RT-Thread.

In the past 10 months, Pragyan ‘21 organized a plethora of events and took social initiatives. Some of them were GyaanE, Pragati, Career Compass, Young Techie and iCitizen.

The social responsibility wing of Pragyan conducted ‘GyaanE’, an interactive virtual event to engage with the young teenage minds of SOS Children’s Village, Bhopal. The session served to be extremely fruitful for the students, filled with exciting activities and motivational lectures. The event was wrapped up with a valuable career guidance session.

Pragyan in association with Mindlake Analytics conducted ‘Pragati’, a free full-length mock JEE Main exam. Experienced evaluators then assessed their answers and provided each student with a detailed analysis of their results.

To help out students in choosing a suitable career, Pragyan ‘21 conducted Career Compass, a free day-long career guidance event. Participants were given the opportunity to take a psychometric test and were provided with a detailed analysis and instructions on how to perceive the results on the very same day.

Pragyan conducted the second edition of Young Techie. All students from class VIII to class XII were invited to submit their project abstract in approximately 200 words. The finalists were decided based on the quality of the entries received, and they also availed the opportunity to attend a four-week long project development program, under the mentorship of the technical clubs of NIT Trichy.

Pragyan knew how important it was to stay up to date on your rights and services. To make this easier for you, Pragyan introduced iCitizen, an initiative taken in an effort to bring to you essential knowledge and information on various government and other crucial services, like PAN and insurance.

Pragyan ‘21 also conducted Backstage, a live infotainment series where experts in VFX, animation, and other fields talk about the incorporation of technology in entertainment. We hosted Pete Michels is a renowned Emmy-winning animation director and his most notable works include Rick and Morty, The Simpsons, and the Family Guy.

We also had a live session with Wahid Ibn Reza who has worked on HBO’s Game of Thrones, Rick and Morty, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, and the Oscar-nominated Doctor Strange.

Next Backstage episode saw Gaurav Sundararaman, a senior cricket analyst who has over 12 years of experience in multiple domains of cricket. He is well-known for developing data-driven analytics and strategies to improve the performance of teams in the IPL.

Pragyan also successfully observed the Space Week from 4th to 10th October ‘20 with special events like Cosmic Canvas (a graphic design contest), What If (an abstract/theory submission event), Space Riddlers and insightful guest lectures by Dr. B.N Suresh, the Chancellor at IIST Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. V. R Lalithambika, the Director of the Directorate of the Human Space Program at ISRO and Dr. David Reitze, the Director of the LIGO Laboratory.

We conducted two virtual hackathons, the Pragyan Hackathon with exciting domains like Automotive Sector, Climate Change and Women Safety on the 16th and 17th January 2021 and the Fusion Hack, a one-of-its-kind 30-hour hackathon conducted exclusively for college students,to ideate, innovate and provide implementable proposals in the domains of CAD Design and PCB design, in association with Autodesk, Inc. on the 27th and 28th February 2021.

Virtual exhibits were also a highlight of Pragyan ‘21. Jonathan Tippett, from Vancouver, Canada, has always been fascinated by the dynamic between humans and machines. This is what led him to design and build the largest tetrapod exo-skeleton, which he named “Prosthesis” and demonstrated over a live session. We await more of such exhibits in the coming days.
Pragyan ’21 is scheduled to happen from the 25th of March to the 11th of April. With the fest being conducted virtually, a list of events, workshops, guest lectures, panel discussions and many more are to be witnessed.
There are about eight clusters of events, with different events under them that have been planned out. Bytehoc, Conception, Concreate, eWitts, Manigma, Pandora’s Box, Phronesis, and Roborex are the clusters for this year’s fest. The events include Pragyan Premier League, Circuitrix, Town Trace, Sherlocked, Code Wars, among many others.
Workshops by practicing professionals in both the managerial field, and technical field will be conducted. Animation Software, Electric Vehicles by Mahindra, Six-Sigma Yellow Belt and, Data Analytics are among the lined-up workshops.
This year will see the first online edition of Guest Lectures. With topics like innovation & self-sustenance, cybersecurity, next generation antibiotics, Artificial Intelligence, Augmented and Virtual Reality and their role in the coming future and much more, Illumináre, the online lecture series, is sure to nudge your curiosity.
Crossfire, the annual Panel Discussion, with its virtual iteration seeks to address the dilemma that has been pertinent since last few months – The Social Dilemma. Though social media served as the only platform of communication during the pandemic, it’s ugly sides have become too glaring. Administrations of various nations have taken note of this and various draft policies are being brought into play to regulate it. Will that be sufficient? Feb 24, 2021: STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, is exhibiting at MWC Shanghai 2021(23-25 February). Smart Mobility: At MWC Shanghai 2021, ST will highlight its advanced technologies and solutions for car digitalization. A demo wall of GNSS solutions based on ST Teseo-family technologies will showcase how ST is enabling vehicle positioning with centimeter-level accuracy.

ST will also display Firmware-Over-The-Air (FOTA) services, which enable firmware downloads and updates for any of the specific electronic control units (ECUs) inside a car. With the number of ECUs in vehicles increasing, sharing diagnostic and operational data from on-board systems and components can help car makers reduce recall expenses, increase product quality and operational efficiency, as well as deliver post-sale vehicle performance and feature enhancements while ensuring cybersecurity is of paramount importance. ST offers a full range of telematics processors, 32-bit microcontrollers and secure elements, ensuring the highest level of security and helping protect vehicles from malicious attacks.

Power & Energy Management: ST’s demonstrations in this area focus on Power Management and Automation. The Power Management highlights include a wireless charging TX-RX reference system solution for applications up to 50W and applies to consumer electronics like smartphones and wearable devices, among others. We will also showcase the MasterGaN1 evaluation board, an advanced power device that integrates a gate driver and two enhancement-mode GaN transistors in a half‑bridge configuration. The MasterGaN1 combination accelerates the development of compact and efficient next-generation chargers and power adapters for consumer and industrial applications up to 400W.

For Automation, ST is using a live-map representation, based on the AWS dashboard, of an Asset Tracking Solution that integrates the most useful network communication technologies, including LoRA, Sigfox, BLE, and NFC, as well as new ST sensor solutions (LSM6DSOX and LPS22HH). The total solution enables customers to track all of their nodes, showing real-time positions, geo-fencing, path history, and sensor data traces. Other innovative demos include a Lighting Control System via BLE connectivity technology, together with a KNX solution and multi-connection demo based on BlueNRG-LP.

 IoT & 5G:  At the ST booth, visitors can experience a technology demonstration of Augmented Reality smart glasses that use ST’s MEMS micro-mirror and Laser Beam Scanning solution. Developed by ST and its partners, these smart glasses have the advantages of lower power and higher brightness, affording high lens transparency, smaller form factor, lighter weight, and a large eyebox.

At MWC Shanghai, ST is unveiling STPay-Mobile, a platform that simplifies virtualization of security-critical public-transit ticketing and payment cards on smartphones and wearables. STPay-Mobile helps mobile-device manufacturers leverage the features of ST’s ST54 secure System-on-Chip (SoC) to handle contactless transactions and protect sensitive information, including data and authentication credentials. At the ST booth, visitors can simulate a journey across different cities through this Tap-and-Pay solution.

To demonstrate its full spectrum of IoT & 5G solutions, ST will also display a Gesture Detection demo based on the VL53L5 multi-point Time-of-Flight sensor, an aftermarket wireless digit reader for Metering applications, a digital power solution with high-resolution Timer-oriented features, an STM32 GUI solution, and ST60 contactless connectivity solution, among other exciting products.

This intensive Signal Integrity and Power Integrity workshop provides you with the necessary skills to tackle everyday SI and PI challenges with Keysight PathWave Advanced Design System (ADS).

The SI session starts with the holistic approach to solve any signal integrity problems by using analysis techniques such as eye diagram, mixed-mode S-parameters, time domain reflectometry (TDR) and single pulse response. The session continues to exercise the techniques in design and exploration of single-ended and differential channels. Finally, the SI workshop concludes with EM model extraction and investigation of application and standards.

In the PI sessions, we cover the elegant flat impedance design technique and explore the cohesive ADS Power Integrity eco-system. In the process of PI eco-system simulations, you will use impedance vs. frequency data to create measured models, estimate decoupling capacitance, and debug noise ripple on a power rail.

The combination of lecture and hands-on exercises allows attendees to explore the presented topics in real-time while being mentored by an expert in the field. The hands-on approach allows you to gain confidence in your ability to apply these skills on your own, at your workplace. You will learn to design, simulate and troubleshoot most common Signal Integrity and Power Integrity related issues.

At the show, the 100-node BlueNRG-Mesh network for connected IoT objects will demonstrate ST’s world-class Bluetooth® MESH and intelligent sensor turn-key solutions for industrial applications. In addition, ST will display its STM32WB E-LOCK Solution. Based on the dual-core wireless STM32WB MCU, this smart-lock demo integrates Bluetooth, MCU, fingerprint algorithm chip, Zigbee, Thread, and other functions to optimize the features with most efficient cost.

Security: With the rapid growth of IoT and fast-paced automation process driven by Industry 4.0, today’s on-line services and connections to remote objects need high levels of protection against cyber threats. ST is taking the lead to empower device makers with a state-of-the-art security solution for minimum integration efforts. At the ST booth, the STM32L5 TrustZone demo will showcase how to optimize balance among performance, power consumption, and security with ST’s STM32L5 MCU.  Leveraging the Arm® Cortex®-M33 security features and Armv8-M TrustZone technology, the STM32L5 ensures flexible isolation of hardware and software.

Automotive: Car electrification and autonomous driving are transforming the automotive industry and ST is at the forefront of providing drivers and passengers with safer, greener, and more connected driving experiences. ST’s Smart Driving solutions encompass ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance System), Radar, V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything), GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), Infotainment and Telematics.
